The Star Wars Battlefront Reveal at Star Wars Celebration

Hey everyone!

We’ve finally had the reveal for Star Wars Battlefront! So without further ado, here’s the teaser trailer!

What Did They Reveal About Star Wars Battlefront?

Quite a few things were revealed. The most important detail being the release date. It is slated for release November 17th for North America, November 20th for the UK and apparently November 19th for Australia.

The setting of the game will be primarily on Original Trilogy planets. No Prequel Trilogy locations will be in the game. Four planets were confirmed from the trailer: Tatooine, Endor, Hoth, and Sullust. This was also tweeted by Niklas Fegraeus the Design Director of Star Wars Battlefront:

So undoubtedly there will be a lot more locations and different types of maps to be announced. Niklas also explained further:

They also revealed that there will be no campaigns (like Battlefront II had) but instead, they will have missions which are playable alone or with a friend online or by split-screen if you’re using a console.

And yes! There will be playable heroes as well! So far, they’ve only revealed Boba Fett and Darth Vader. Niklas further stated on Twitter that:

They also announced that there will be a free DLC which will be available on the 8th of December. However, if you pre-order the game you will get access on December 1st.

Thoughts on the Trailer

As a cinematic piece, the trailer was quite nice. It didn’t have the same awe inspiring, dramatic impact that the Force Awakens Trailer or Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Trailer had, but that’s okay. What it did do brilliantly was beautifully capture the different types of game play, weaponry and vehicles we’ll have access to.

Overall I feel it did a fair job of capturing the essence of the game and how it will play out. Graphically, the trailer looked quite beautiful and it will be interesting to see how closely the game will resemble those graphics considering the trailer was made using the Frostbite Engine.

How Does It Compare To Expectations?

The biggest bummer for me was the revelation that there will be no Space Combat. There will, however, be flyable vehicles so you can fly around in X-Wings and Tie Fighters over the planets. endor troops bf

I also predicted that they would include the planet Jakku and it turned out I was correct. Except that it will be the actual battle itself (which took place 1 year after the Battle of Endor) and not the ruins like I speculated. The Battle of Jakku will be released as a Free DLC in early December as I mentioned above.

I am very pleased that they are focusing on original trilogy locations and hopefully they will announce some additional planets or locations like Yavin, Bespin or even the Death Star. But in any case, I am very much looking forward to seeing what they’ve come up with for the different maps and associated game modes. I’m intrigued by them adding Sullust! This could mean we could see more new planets never seen in the movies like Corellia, perhaps, or even Lothal from Star Wars Rebels! Okay, that would be pretty epic actually!

And finally Niklas hinted at this:

So it looks like they are adding a new gearing element with achievements and all that. It’ll be interesting to hear more about how it will work.

So that’s all the main details covered. Overall I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Despite the disappointment that there will be no Space Combat, I am still very much looking forward to hearing more about Star Wars Battlefront!
