I don’t know if anyone remembers when I used to do these kinds of posts, but I’ve decided to resurrect them. Basically, I go over all the news for the week, the blog posts I wrote and highlight community content! So, here goes.
SWTOR News and Blog Posts
The big news this week was the end game gearing progression changes which are part of the new Galactic Command System coming in Knights of the Eternal Throne Expansion. Details about Galactic Command were announced in a Dev Stream held on Monday and the Gearing component was clarified and Dev Posts after the Stream.
Basically, Galactic Command is a new way to queue for all the content in the game (except Space Missions) and earn loot crates with gear in them by ranking up your Command Rank. You can read more about the basics of the system and how gearing will work in an article I wrote.
In my view a purely RNG based gearing progression system (especially for PvP) has no place in an MMO. It takes the sense of accomplishment and purpose out of doing harder content as gear no longer drops from bosses. They have also made the system subscriber only effectively locking out non-subs from end game content. You can read more about my thoughts on the new system in my article, The Grind of Chance – The Sacrilege of SWTOR.
I also an article about how SWTOR compromise on the new gearing system.
On Thursday another Dev Stream was held to discuss the Light vs. Dark side component of the event. Basically it’s a system that allows you access to more fluff depending on your alignment. There will also be bosses that spawn in the open world based on which alignment is losing. If you want to learn more about it, check out SWTOR’s Blog about it.
Finally, it has recently been noticed by the community that SWTOR ninja removed Operations and Warzone Passes from the Cartel Market. Whether this change was deliberate or on accident remains to be seen. It would makes sense to remove the Operations Pass (the Warzone Pass though?) given the upcoming changes to how players will access end game content and gearing. But to remove them without informing the community is a really dodgy move by the SWTOR Devs.
Ootinicast Episode 283 with guests Snave and Blachloch featured some fantastic discussion on the announced Galactic Command System and gearing. Go and have a listen (if you haven’t already) and show the awesome guys Teo and Chill love.
Sick Twisted Individuals, a Harbinger PvP Guild, did a charity stream on Hottie’s channel on Saturday (then continued it on Sunday due to technical difficulties). They raised $635 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A lot of fun and shenanigans ensued over two days with raffles, prize giveaways and challenges. You can find out more about the Charity Stream and how it went on on the SWTOR forums.
If you have any upcoming or recently held community shenanigans to highlight, let me know and I’ll include them in my next SWTOR Weekly!
What did you think of this weeks news? Are you still looking forward to 5.0?
