SWTOR Weekly Developer Watch – Let’s Get Technical

A weekly series where I keep track of everything new SWTOR Game Producer, Keith Kanneg and other SWTOR Developers say.

You can read my previous Developer Watch Post here. See all Developer Watch Posts here.

(I apologise for this being super late. Real life stresses and anxiety have been getting in the way of my writing of late).

This week we heard a fair bit from Keith (and Musco) this week about a variety of issues. The main highlights included a technical post about how the Developers handle DPS Class Balance and the proposed upcoming Arsenal Mercenary changes.

Let’s see what they had to say!

At the start of the week, there were more issues with East Coast Server’s the Developers had to deal with. Keith thanked the players for their patience and informed them the East Coast Servers would be up shortly.

This next post is by Musco but I wanted to share it here. A player asked if the Developers play the game. TLDR, they most certainly do. Some more than others, Eric used himself as an example of a more casual player while Keith plays the game quite frequently.

In this next post, Keith answered a question from a player about adding PvE GSF into the game (something Teo from Ootinicast would also love to see). But sadly, it won’t be happening this year.

Someone asked if it would be possible to add a male dancer outfit to the game. Keith said he would make some inquiries.

A player questioned if the Developers were still monitoring the Road Map thread. Keith said that they still were and that the thread was a good place to ask questions although they may not necessarily be answered straight away.

A player asked Keith if they could message him about their concerns about Companions. He replied that yes they could.

Keith then asked the players to keep server population/merge discussion in the thread started by Musco. He also commented that he had nothing to say on the issue at this time.

Keith gave Ranked PvPer’s an update on when we could expect to see the Season 8 Rewards.

A player asked about what the week’s Discussion Topic would be. Keith revealed that they hadn’t decided yet but they have a quite a few topics to choose from.

Poor Keith admitted that he didn’t know that there were private messages on the forums. He apologised to everyone who had sent him messages.

Musco posted a detailed write-up of how the Developers deal with Class Balance. You can read the very long post here.

He also posted the potential Arsenal Mercenary Class Changes. You can read them here.

A curious player asked what other ‘MMO’ content was being considered for the future. Keith responded early Saturday morning that they’re working on providing content for a variety of existing game systems.

A player also asked if they could sell the original Mercenary Tracer Missile Animation animation. Keith jokingly replied that if they stop asking about it that he’d seriously look into it.

A player asked if it would be possible to combine GSF, PvP and Flagships into some form of PvP scenario. Keith replied that he would consult with Charles and look into it.

So yes, quite a variety of topics were discussed this week. I continue to be impressed with Keith’s communication efforts with the player base. He’s kept it up for over 2 months now and I hope he continues with it. I look forward to hearing more about what the developers have in store for us.

What did you think of the Class Balance explanation? Are you satisfied with Keith’s continued communication efforts?
